Springbank

Described as one of the ‘grand cru’ distilleries in Michael Jackson’s Malt Whisky Companion, the bestselling book on the subject worldwide, Springbank features in almost every whisky connoisseur’s top ten malts. Established in 1828, Springbank is unique amongst Scotland's distilleries for still being owned and run by the founding family, to this day making it Scotland's oldest independent distillery.

The house style is a medium-peated malt with touches of coconut and sweet citrus, a briny note, light oily texture and stunning complexity. It offers all of Scotland’s malt styles in one package and really hits its stride in its mid-teens age, with the annual 21 year old release having reached iconic status.

The single malt produced at Springbank is also made in a rather distinct way to other distilleries, with the spirit distilled two and a half times. The distillery uses local peat and its own barley, malted on site (the only self-sufficient malt distillery in Scotland), with the whisky then stored in the world’s oldest earthen floor bonded warehouse: The No3 Bond. After maturation, the majority of the whisky is then bottled on site by hand.
